Vigilance Tops at Information Seminar

During the information seminar for elected officials of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) and party executives at the Bamenda congress hall on June 14, 2014 militants of the party vowed to watch out on any threats to the existing peace in Cameroon.

Electoral Campaigns : Cpdm is Leaving No Stone Unturned

The resolve of the ruling Cpdm party to carry frank messages to the populations in the five sections of Fako Division are certainly paying off. The campaign caravans have succeeded to whip up sentiments and emotions among the populations as they have recounted the goodies that the Cpdm has brought over the last mandate.

The messages were specific and aptly designed to be relevant to the municipalities and constituencies concerned, giving the electorate the opportunity to reasonably put the ruling party and the other political parties on a scale balance.

The outcome in the various areas has afforded the Cpdm party unalloyed support especially in view of the September 30, Twin Elections, even as the different campaign teams assigned by the hierarchy of the party all agree that much work still has to be done on the ground to attain the set goals. Maintaining or surpassing the pace of grapping all the seven sub divisional councils and the four parliamentary seats in the division.
In Buea, the bastion of the Cpdm, the message propagated by the leader of the parliamentary campaign team leader, Hon Paul Meoto Njie was undoubtedly clear! Meoto hinged on the recent infrastructural developments that have taken place in Buea, especially within the framework of the imminent celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Cameroon. And if anyone thought that it was a given for Buea to have this kind of gesture, such a one should recall that the bargain for the venue of the celebrations was a fierce tussle throughout the national territory.

The people of the South, West, North West, Centre regions wanted it. Even in the south west, Kumba, Limbe, Mamfe, among others wanted it but the President of the republic chose Buea only. The road infrastructure, the street lighting and the greatly improved potable water supply, have come at the preparatory phase. Even outside this framework, Buea denizens can now boast of an unequaled council building in the region thanks to the work of the outgoing municipal councilors.

The town is flooded with all types of academic and professional institutions of all levels, which make that a child born in Buea can start school in Buea and go through the rungs of the academic ladder to professorship without ever stepping out of Buea. Meoto would not forget the peace and progress that reigns in Cameroon under the leadership of H.E. President Paul Biya, who is now seeking to have comfortable majority in Parliament and the municipal councils to accompany him in his 2035 vision. An aspiring councilor in Buea simply observed that “the Cpdm is heavily entrenched in Buea and it is for this reason that the structure is in every village where we have cells, branches and subsections. You see the good crowds that are turning out for the campaign rallies,” he illustrated. After re-echoing the development projects that have taken place just over a year in the hill-side city, he however observed that much still has to be done as concerns youth employment which is a serious problem the world over and especially in Africa where the youth constitute 50% of the population. “First the youth has to be equipped with talents and skills. Even if you have a degree in History, you can do a refresher course in poultry, a Literature degree holder can do a course in plantation agriculture to get the country and the town forward. This is what our institutions should be working on and that is what the Cpdm is out for.”

Muyuka
In Muyuka, Churchill Monono based his arguments on the reigning peace and evident development in the municipality. He almost raised nerves when he reminded the population of the years of rupture and mutiny in Muyuka while the Sdf was at the helm of the council from 1997 to 2007.  The ignominious destruction of life and government structures, the vilifying of political opponents by the Sdf and the gross insecurity and mismanagement at the time speaks volumes of a political party that does not have interest in nation building. From 2007 when the Cpdm took over the municipality, it has “restored what the canker worms and the caterpillars took away.” Muyuka also boasts of a befitting council building, a state of the art road leading through it, unperturbed potable water supply, and better electricity network, among others. The issue of security has been properly checked because through projects initiated and sponsored by the Cpdm regime, especially by giving grants to small scale farmers, the youth is largely employed. Monono indisputable pointed to the fact the story of Muyuka has changed over the last six years and for the greater good.

Idenau
The Director of general affairs at the Pm’s office, Evambe Thomas, campaign president of Idenau observed that the people of that area had resolved to stay glued to the Cpdm and its National chairman, Paul Biya. The victory of the Cpdm in Idenau has never been threatened in Idenau. Even as there is going to be no competetion in the council elections, the people have worked all along as a team to ensure that they scale up from the 80% victory they got in 2007 to 100%. The parliamentary seat for Fako west circumscribes Idenau as well. The victory must be given to the Cpdm and the Vice President of the National Assembly, Hon Emilia Lifaka. In his view, it becomes incumbent on the entire population to collect their voter’s cards and effectively vote for the Cpdm come September 30th. Divisional President for Fako West, Isaac Jackai Musonge was discernibly impressed at the galvanising attitude of the militants of Idenau who seemed not to be taking chances. As he presented the candidates for both elections, he brandished the white ballot card with the flame for campaigns educating them to ensure the cast two votes before they leave the ballot box.

Limbe
Andrew Motanga in Limbe also took valuable time to introduce the candidate for the parliamentary elections, Etombi Gladys who has been hailed for her grass root nature and integrity and has kept a track record of holding the post of national President of various organisations. He also presented the aspiring councilors of Limbe I with Johny Manga Williams at the helm, as well as the other two sub divisional council aspirants. Motanga succinctly borrowed a leaf from Churchill Monono’s book in Muyuka as he recounted that the years when the Sdf led the municipality of Limbe were floor years for the Town of friendship. He recalled moments of rancor, frequent change of mayors, walk out from constituted meetings orchestrated by Sdf councilors and others. He would also show the population how the town now booms in business so rendered by the reigning peace and stability plus the infrastructural development.
Etombi Gladys while commenting on the strength of the party in her constituency said there was no doubt in the rallying force of the party. She added that “the Cpdm has invested candidates of timbre and caliber”. For her, “this gives it a leeway to win the hearts of the population”. Her gunning for parliament, she said, is to have the plight of the grass root reflected in the laws of the republic and to accompany the President by lobbying for projects for her constituency and beyond.
